Twenty years of roofs taught us the range was named after the wrong thing.
Depth is a consequence. What a specifier is actually held to is a number in a report: litres retained, species established, kilograms per square metre, kilowatt-hours produced. In 2026 we renamed every system after the outcome it is engineered to deliver, and moved the technical library behind a login so we know which drawing set is in whose hands.
A meristem is the tissue a plant grows from.
It is the small, unglamorous layer where everything above it originates. That is what an assembly is to a roof, and it is what the mark draws: three layers and a shoot breaking the top line.
Verdura described a colour. Meristem describes a function, which is the shift the whole business made.
- 2006Verdura Roof Products founded in Burlington, Ontario. Two extensive assemblies.
- 2011First modular tray line. The catalogue starts being named by depth.
- 2017Monitoring programme begins — twenty-four roofs instrumented for retention.
- 2023Detention cells and flow control added; stormwater work outgrows the naming.
- 2026Rebrand to Meristem. The range is renamed by outcome, and the document library moves behind a login.
Old catalogue → current system
| Was | Code | Now | What else changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| V-Lite 100 | VL-100 | Meristem LITE | Same assembly. Media spec updated to the 2026 mineral blend. |
| Verdura Sedum Mat | VSM | Meristem LITE | Mat now ships 12-species; single-species option discontinued. |
| TrayGreen 4 | TG-4 | Meristem TRAY | Module unchanged. Reservoir volume increased to 0.31 gal/ft². |
| V-Cassette M6 | VC-M6 | Meristem TRAY | Superseded by the 600 mm module. Legacy sizes supported to 2028. |
| BioMeadow 150 | BM-150 | Meristem MEADOW | Seed mix is now specified by ecoregion rather than one national mix. |
| Verdura Meadow | VM | Meristem MEADOW | Renamed only. Assembly and load unchanged. |
| AquaBase 80 | AB-80 | Meristem RETAIN | Now sized to a release rate. Detention depth is a design output, not a SKU. |
| V-Retain Cell | VRC | Meristem RETAIN | Cell unchanged. Flow-control outlet is now part of the assembly. |
| Verdura Eco-Deep | VED | Meristem TERRACE | Split from the intensive line; tree-pit detail is now a separate drawing. |
| ED-300 | ED-300 | Meristem TERRACE | Renamed only. 300 mm profile unchanged. |
| SolarMat Hybrid | SMH | Meristem BIOSOLAR | Ballast calculation replaced the fixed-block detail. |
| V-PV 120 | VPV-120 | Meristem BIOSOLAR | Renamed only. Array spacing detail revised for 24" fuel break. |
Manufacturing
Media blended and mats grown in Burlington, Ontario. Modules ship planted, not seeded.
Installed by others
We do not install. Assemblies are placed by approved roofing and landscape contractors, trained and re-certified every two years.
Held to numbers
Twenty-four instrumented roofs feed the retention figures published on this site. The raw data is in the portal.
